The EFL has recently confirmed that they will not be restarting the current season, leaving the option of a points per game system to be put in place as a decider for the final league standings. The points per game system is a system that uses a club’s current home and away records to predict their remaining home and away fixtures.
In a recent National League board meeting that took place on May 5th, the board confirmed that they were going to wait on the EFL to see what decision they were going to make on the outcome of the season before deciding on their own. With rumours that the EFL will be using the points per game system, it is now rumoured that the National League will also follow suit in which will have very big implications on The Beavers and the outcome of their season.

As shown on the home and away points per game table for the National League South, this system would be hugely beneficial for The Beavers and would completely change the outcome of their season. As you can see, due to The Beavers having two games in hand on the team previously above them, The Beavers have now leapfrogged Dorking Wanders in the table and have moved up to 7th into what is most importantly the final playoff position.
It looked as if it was just going to be another season of disappointment for The Beavers, finishing 8th with the current season getting voided, however all of this may suddenly change with what it looks like to be luck on their side. It’s yet to be officially confirmed by the National League board but it does look like The Beavers are going to controversially secure a playoff position, in which I’m sure the members of Dorking Wanders will certainly have a few choice words to say on the decision if the points per game system is to be introduced. However, delight for The Beavers who look like they are going to secure a position in the playoffs after a miserable outing last season, making it three playoff finishes in the last four years. Will this season be the one where The Beavers finally secure promotion into the Vanarama National League? We will be sure to keep you up to date on all the latest playoff action once the National League board have come to a final decision on how the league will play out.
